I wish I knew to trust my coaches and team more to tell them about my anxiety

Rosa is a teenage netballer who started playing at school, then grew her love for the game as she joined county and regional teams.

Whilst loving the netball was easy for Rosa, being open and honest about her mental health struggles with anxiety has been a challenge.

‘I wish I knew to trust my coaches and team more to tell them about my anxiety.’

‘I’ve had panic attacks at tournaments and stuff, and I had to go home.’

Juggling mental health struggles with school and sport was a challenge but once Rosa was open with her netball circle, including her coach, everyone was really supportive and helped her through it.

‘I wish I had more confidence to tell them, because they’re just amazing people!’

Rosa’s advice to other young teenage netballers who might have similar struggles with their mental health would be to trust those around you; they are your netball family.

‘There is a massive support system around you and everyone just wants the best for you.’

‘Keep playing, be confident!’
