I wish I knew how valuable netball could be on my mental health after having a baby

Meet Megan, a member of the England Netball participation team as well as coach and player. Megan shares how she wish she knew more about the value of playing netball on her mental health after having a baby.

The months after having a baby and working out the new normal in your household can be a big challenge as everyone has to adjust and it’s not always easy!

‘After having a baby, sometimes it can feel quite isolating. Especially if the people around you aren’t in that same stage of life.’

‘Going out, putting on any sports kit after you’ve just had a baby doesn’t always feel the most comfortable thing to do.’

‘I got onto the court at Back to Netball, and I just forgot it all.’

New connections and building relationships takes time and effort, both of which can be a challenge with a newborn. But Megan shares how valuable she found taking time for herself when she could: one hour a week to be active on court and meet other people too.

‘So many people there were in the same position as me.’

‘I felt energised, even though I arrived feeling tired, I left feeling happier in myself.’
