England Netball’s kit guidance

We believe everyone should feel confident, comfortable, and empowered in what they wear on court. Read on to find out more about our domestic kit guidance and discover the importance of choice, safety and unity.

What does the guidance say?

  • Kit should be uniform in colour. That means your team should coordinate in colours, but not everyone has to wear exactly the same thing.
  • You do NOT have to wear a dress.
  • You do NOT have to wear identical garments.

Loose or fitted, players should feel good in what they wear. Just make sure it’s safe for play and matches your team’s colours. We recommend offering players a choice of kit, which could include:

  • Dress
  • Shorts
  • Leggings
  • Skort
  • Skirt
  • Long sleeve t-shirt
  • Short sleeve t-shirt
  • Vest

Hair Guidance

We know how personal hair can be. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Hair should be tied back securely.
  • Hair accessories must be safe for everyone on court.
  • A single ponytail fixed at one point works for all hair types.
  • Decorative accessories should be left off the court or covered with a bonnet.

Head Coverings

Everyone deserves to play without compromise. If you wear a head covering for religious, cultural or personal reasons:

  • Hats, headscarves, bonnets or scarfs are allowed.
  • They should be soft, with no embellishments or loose fibres that could cause a risk.
  • Any edges or loose parts must be safely secured or tucked in.
  • Peaked caps, visors, or baseball-style hats aren’t permitted.

Why does this matter?

We want every player to feel like they belong. That starts with recognising that choice in kit matters, whether it’s for faith, culture, health, comfort or the weather. Feeling like your brilliant self on court should never be limited by what you’re wearing.

And for our amazing umpires…

You’ve got options too! Your uniform just needs to be distinct in colour from the players. There’s no rule saying you must wear white, especially not on your bottom half. Go for comfort, go for confidence.

Pass it on!
